Entrepreneurial Health

Entrepreneurial Health

In this area of Entrepreneurial Health, or I rather call it “Entrepreneurial Wholeness”, we are going to talk about some key elements to lead you to the wholeness. In the end of the day, for whatever reason you started your business, I am sure it is not aiming for poor health, overweight, all stressed out, grumpy with no energy, and feel defeated because you haven’t accomplished what you desire.

Often time, as we let go our health while we are so consumed in the business activities, we forsake vacations, exercising, healthy eating habits, etc just to name a few.

When we talk about health, in fact it is a balance game.  The balance among physical energy, mental/emotional energy, and spiritual energy.

Physical Energy:

-Great and enough sleep, at least 7-8 hours a day in order to have clear consciousness and focus.

-Resting/renewal break every 90-120 min, especially if you sit front you desk/computer for long time, the blood circulation below the waist is bad, and can cause a lot of physical problems.

-Eating habits, instead of 3 large meals, consider 5-6 smaller meals throughout the day.  The idea is to maintain the blood sugar in the consistent levels, so you can be more productive.

-Food choice, eat fresh! There is a fun story between one of my best girlfriends- Amy.  Years ago, as we just moved from Jamaica to Florida, and still going through some culture shock.  One day, I invited Amy to come to our home for lunch.  She agreed to bring some salad along, as I was preparing some main course.  When she arrived with her store-bought salad pack, and she asked me “Where is your salad sauce?”   I was puzzled, and asked her what did she mean?  She went to open my refrigerator, and couldn’t believe that there was no store-bought salad sauce in it…it turned out there was a big gap between our understanding about the salad sauce! For me, I always make it from scratch by using fresh ingredients I have in hand…

Later on I figured that was why I was so often asked by the cashiers in grocery stores whether I am restaurant owner or not with all the fresh produce I purchased… a high percentage of Americans consume too much “microwave-ready” food, in the long term, you will add the burden of you liver, and store up a lot of chemicals in your system. That’s not a good thing.

-Power-Nap is powerful! Do you know many high achievers are also power nappers? Beethoven, Thomas Edison, Ronald Reagan to name a few.  Sleep researcher says one afternoon nap is much more effective in restore energy than a cup of coffee.  Personally I love afternoon nap for 30 min-1 hour, it helps me to renew my energy tremendously!

-Exercise frequently! Exercise is a natural antidepressant, it makes you happy! More importantly to be fit physically will increase the productivity in all areas in life, not just for business’ sake!

Emotional/Mental Energy

-The expression of “you made my day” When we receive a compliment after a long and dragged day, it could be just one word or one sentence of positive affirmation to be able to lift us up!  It is the power of emotional energy.

-Set up effective working zones for different mental activities to be most productive.

I explain in details at this page.

-Mental focus-single task. Multitasking is worse than a lie, which I learned from “The Myth Of Multitasking: How “Doing It All” Gets Nothing Done” by Dave Crenshaw I elaborated this topic here.  Also please make sure, do set priority and work with your physical energy level, not against it.

Spiritual Energy

-Realize you are a spirt being, you have a soul/mind, and live in a physical body.

-Breathe deeply often, think gratitude! What you can be thankful for daily?

-Meditate/Prayer, as you recognize God does exist, and your calling is not for you, but for others; it also broadens your view and perspectives; and become more meaningful and significant!

I concur, Kelly! I learned from Brain Tracy a long time ago that the ladder to success starts from being free from fear, anger and guilt. The next step is to have vibrant health, because we need the stamina to do the things we love to do. I especially like power napping, deep breathing and meditation. You are right on !

Many thanks for sharing and leading by example.

    Best, Guan
